The long-time readers of this blog will have guessed this post was right around the corner. I researched Zerline's roots, like I did with Kenzo and Tilde.
I did quite an exciting discovery. Zerline and Kenzo share no less than 5 generations of common ancestors starting with some of the very first Hovawarts back in 1922.
Their common ancestry ends abruptly at the end of WWII with Frigga Wiegmann. Frigga's offspring is split, and while Kenzo's ancestors live in West-Germany, Zerline's ancestors find themselves behind the iron curtain in East-Germany, the former DDR. The curtain even drops a vale over this post as you will see the pictures of these East-German ancestors are either black-and-white, or missing completely.
Zerline's ancestors did quite some migrating. When the Berlin Wall was teared down, her ancestors migrated to Norway, and from Norway to Holland. With a Belgium father and living in Denmark herself, Zerline already seems to eagerly follow in her ancestors migrating footsteps.
I was also surprised not to find Castor Meyer-Busch as one of the great-great-grandfathers in Zerline's mother's side as most Hovawarts descend directly from him in one way or the other. Where I found him in Kenzo's ancestry, and with Tilde even twice, he doesn't appear in Zerline's direct line of mothers, fathering a litter. Although he was just around the corner when he fathered Zerline's great-...x17-grandfather, Armin (Genest), in 1934.
