When A New Door Opens

We have an announcement to make.

Actually, it's a BIG one.

"OMG?!"

"Has Tilde lost her antics?"

"Kenzo became a tracking World-champion?"

Oh no, nothing REALLY big like that!

I started writing a book.

A book about the rise and fall of the Hovawart puppy mill in Denmark. The blog wouldn't be the right platform for it. A book would.

When the mill came crashing down two years ago, I reported about it here on the blog, and you joined me in petitions and direct actions to get all sixty-five dogs out, mostly Hovawarts, but Golden Retrievers as well.

It hit me hard that time, how bad the dogs were really doing and how dire their situation actually was. It was distressing too, it concerned Hovawarts, and I only had to look at Kenzo and Viva, to know I had to do more than grab a pen this time. It eventually led amongst others to the rescue of Tilde, her siblings, and her mom, Cherry. Although that time, I didn't know Tilde was on a road that would bring her to our family, and Cherry's freedom was sadly short-lived.

Today, almost exactly two years later, the story still haunts me. A nagging voice in my head keeps telling me, there is so much more that needs to be told. I named my nightly visitor Cherry's voice, and if a publisher would allow it, it would be my preferred title for the book too.

It will take a while to put Cherry's voice on paper. I've only just started on the rough manuscript, a lot more research needs to be done, more interviews to take ... I also need to find a publisher/agent - or self-publish if I can't find one - hire an editor, write a book-proposal ... the to-do list is long. You will have to be patient.

Oh yeah. I never wrote a book before, so if you're under the impression I know what I am doing ... I am not.

What do you think? Would you be interested in reading such a story? Why would you, or why would you not? Do you still have questions concerning the mill or the dogs involved, and like to get them answered? Which ones are they? Please share your questions, thoughts and opinions in the comment section below, or drop me a mail at kenzohw (at) gmail (dot) com. I would really like to hear from you.

  5. What an important story. Your passion will help you write a compelling book that many people who don't see the harm in puppy mills need to read.

I look forward to reading it.
